In response to the US Supreme Court’s decision issued February 20, 2026, that struck down the Administration’s tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), President Trump issued a new proclamation imposing a temporary import duty effective February 24, 2026, and lasting up to 150 days.
The new surcharge is currently set at 10 percent and may be adjusted up to a maximum of 15 percent, and it may remain in place for up to 150 days.
Fresh mushrooms are still exempt under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA). However, mushroom products and related materials imported from non-USMCA countries, including canned, frozen, dried, specialty imported fresh mushrooms such as enoki, and spawn/logs, may be subject to this surcharge in addition to existing duties, depending on their precise classification and origin.
Because tariff applicability depends on exact Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and country-of-origin qualification, impacts will vary across products, suppliers, and import lanes. As the information evolves, we will updates the Mushroom Tariffs Sheet and make it available on the AMI members only website.
Members who import mushrooms, spawn, or related materials can:
Confirm the exact 10-digit HTS classification for each imported product
Verify country-of-origin status and whether USMCA qualification applies
Work directly with your customs broker and trade counsel to determine whether the temporary surcharge applies
Evaluate landed-cost impacts before entering new purchase agreements, renewing contracts, or adjusting sourcing.
This new action may affect near-term pricing, sourcing decisions, and supply planning across the industry. Imported products and inputs may experience cost adjustments depending on origin and classification.
AMI is actively monitoring federal guidance and will provide updates if additional clarification becomes available. We are also engaging with federal policymakers to ensure the mushroom industry’s interests, supply stability, and long-term competitiveness are fully represented.
As always, AMI remains committed to providing timely information as it becomes available and is relevant.
